My name is Ryan J. Parker, I’m 25 years old, and I’m currently working on a math degree at the College of Charleston.
My research revolves around understanding how a team can maximize their probability of winning games. More specifically, these are the sorts of questions that drive my research:
- How does strategy affect a team’s probability of winning?
- How does a player’s role within this strategy affect the statistics and inferences that are drawn about him?
- How do the teammates a player plays with affect the statistics and inferences that are drawn about him?
- How does the competition a player faces affect the statistics and inferences that are drawn about him?
- How can these player statistics be used to understand how that player would perform if their role, teammates, and/or level of competition were changed?
These are a few of the many questions that drive my motivation for developing methods to quantify how a team’s probability of winning changes based on team performance that best takes into account the level of competition the players face, the quality of their teammates, and the roles defined for them by their coach.
